hmm,, i like the Rude series for what it says they are intended for from what i hear but,, i felt the Zildjians would provide a wider range of sound .
-
Hi ive heard both good and bad about the Paiste Rude series for rock ,, ill try and find a video comparison and add it ,,,
-
i really liked the video ,, i like the A custom and the A heavy , but i didnt really dig the heavy ride ,, i think the a custom ride sounded more what i like , thank you these are extremely helpful,, cymbals are an expensive choice lol

I have been looking at cymbal comparisons (again) and came across the Meinl 18" Sand Crash in a Medium weight. To me it sounds like a perfect blend of crash and trash and I'm getting pretty serious about buying one. Does anyone have any first hand experience with this cymbal?

Zildjian A Custom 25th anniversary ride
Tim B. - SDS Staff Teacher replied to david's topic in Cymbals's Zildjian
Zildjian really knows what they are doing. I have THREE of their rides (20" and 22" K Com Med Thin Low and a 23" K Sweet Ride). But my favorite is a pair of 15" A hats from the 70s. Bought those off a backline company at a gig for $200. -
@Joshua Yes I did get that 21 inch ride and just received the 23 inch. It was on clearance at Guitar Center. Got it new for 200 bucks!
-
Yo people! I just wanted to share this video I stumbled upon. Literally like every common Zildjian cymbal is in this demo. This is so helpful!

Dangggg that is cheap! I would hop on that if I were you!
-
@Joshua I have all A Custom so it should be a sound I like. I saw the 21 locally for 120 bucks.
-
Yo @Dave! I owned the 21" Last year & loved it, however let it go because I was going for a few other sounds over the bright sound. If you like A Custom Zildjians, it's freaking amazing, especially the 23".

Just wondering if anyone picked up this 23 inch ride?

Not that there's really a difference between the two, but you know what I mean. @Tim B.
-
He sure does! I think he usually uses it more as a crash than a ride.
-
@Julia, this ride is derfinitely an investement for sure. I ended up with one because of a sweet deal on craigslist! Another great Zildjian dark cymbal is the 22" K Dark Medium Ride. It has a great bell, good stick definition, and a little bit of wash. It's not a "student" cymbal, but you can definitely find cheap ones used online! Here's a video for you.

Zildjian Renaissance Ride - 22"
Tim B. - SDS Staff Teacher replied to Grant's topic in Cymbals's Zildjian
@Joshua I believe @Stephen has one of those and uses from time to time right? -
Whooo that's a pricey one! It does sound beautiful on video demos I saw. I like darker sounds in a ride, that is what I am learning. I'm going to have to find a 'student’ equivalent, though.
-
If any of you are in the market for a new ride cymbal, I cannot suggest the Zildjian Renaissance Ride enough. It's my absolute favorite cymbal. Sounds amazing and it handles so many different styles incredibly well.
-
Haha love it @Julia!! I'm so happy to hear about your job!

@Joshua I've had no time 😞 I just transitioned from part-time to full-time work, which is great, but everything has gone a bit haywire. I'm also catching a cold (the stress fairy is paying a visit! 🙄). I'm really looking forward to things settling down, so I can go to the music stores and hit clangy things and see what I like. Keep talking cymbals, I'm listening!

Haha did you decided what ride to go with Julia??

Ahhh I totally get ya there. When it comes to cymbals, you usually have to be pretty specific with what you choose to play. You can manipulate the sound of a drum quite a bit, but cymbals are much harder to change.
