Splitting the kit is what I do most of the time but I learned it from watching Claus Hessler and listening to some of his lessons on drumeo. The New Breed is on my to-do list, eventually. I'm working on three other books of interest at the moment.

It is a nice way to compartmentalize what you are doing with either hand.

I've only seen limited stuff from Claus, but I understand he has some good stuff. He's on my to-do. 😉 What I have seen, he's a great resource.

  2. Stephen talks about Gary Chester's book The New Breed. I've read the beginning of it and started working on some of the lessons. His ideas on splitting the kit are helpful for me. It takes some getting used to, but I like the way it's coming together.

  3. Ok, when you say Rock, which Rock do you mean? Just Rock N Roll, Heavy Rock, Punk Rock, Classic Rock, or any other number of genres?

Some that pop into my mind right now are Krokus - Headhunter, Corrosion of Conformity - Deliverance, Wiseblood, America's Volume Dealer, & In The Arms Of God, Judas Priest - Point Of Entry... and I'm sure with time I could go on and on.

  4. Band - Twenty One Pilots or twenty one pilots

Last night, my daughter and I went to see the twenty one pilots show here in Houston and I have to say, what a show it was. I was never really into their music although I liked a few of them. I have been curious about Josh Dun though, since what I've seen online about him seems pretty cool. I will tell you, this guy can make a 3 piece sing. And he can get so many voices out of a small kit. Mind you, he does have a second snare and a couple pads, but when he's on that small 3 piece he knows how to get all the voices out of it.

I will certainly be digging into him more.

I do this kind of song study when I learn a song really seriously. I'm doing it in French because it's easier for me, but I translated this one to keep in this section. It's a little pushed but it allows me to better understand what I'm trying to play and to see where the more difficult areas are with the score that I note over time. I add things over time but this one is pretty complete. 🤓

Wow, that is a seriously deep dive. I'm sure it helps immensely when learning a song. Great work.

  6. Parallel Lines

I wasn't sure what genre to put this under since the album is a collection of a few. Also, if you have access to it, check out Blondie's New York. It's a great documentary about the making of the album.

a good thing to do periodically

I wasn't sure if this was an ongoing thing or not. I've been doing it since you started and it's very interesting to see how my practice is affected with the different sticks. I am not near as experienced as some, but I can say some days were better than others. I still love my ProMark Active Grip Sticks. I've only got the Mike Portnoy signature sticks since that was all that was available when I purchased my two pairs. I plan on trying others in the future. Either way, I do love the way these sticks feel in my hands and I've gotten very used to them.

My guess is, if I continued on with this challenge, I could get a better feel of what is my best option from the 1/2 dozen pairs I do have. Maybe I'll try again another day. I'll just have to see how my mood is tomorrow for practice.

I was at Hahn AFB 89-91. I was in the Army Air Defense Artillery there during the cold war (obviously by the dates). Went to Sembach twice. Love German food.
