Grant
If any of you are in the market for a new ride cymbal, I cannot suggest the Zildjian Renaissance Ride enough. It's my absolute favorite cymbal. Sounds amazing and it handles so many different styles incredibly well.
Julia
Whooo that's a pricey one! It does sound beautiful on video demos I saw. I like darker sounds in a ride, that is what I am learning. I'm going to have to find a 'student’ equivalent, though.

I ended up with one because of a sweet deal on craigslist! Another great Zildjian dark cymbal is the 22" K Dark Medium Ride. It has a great bell, good stick definition, and a little bit of wash. It's not a "student" cymbal, but you can definitely find cheap ones used online! Here's a video for you.

I think he usually uses it more as a crash than a ride.
Grant
Not that there's really a difference between the two, but you know what I mean. @Tim B.
