  1. You are the kindest and sweetest 😘 Took me a while to find it, but I remembered a post by @Joerg with a picture of his e-kit mesh head sanded stick. Here it is:
  2. I believe they are better on the eKit too, a bit quieter on hard cymbals and less aggressive with mesh heads. I bought 7a and 5a together, but I use the 5as all the time, and I've noticed the tips have become significantly pointier from being sanded by the heads.

Hey Kevin, what's up? I'm kinda missing you around. hope everything is fine for you and you keep up practicing.

Hi Juan, Sorry that I am just seeing this, but I haven't been on the forums for quite a while.  All is good, but the company that I work for is going through a staffing crisis and I have been working 60 hour weeks.  I've been missing hanging with you in the forums as well.  I am hoping that things will get more manageable at work and get to engage in the forums, like I have in the past.  I really enjoy watching everyone's progress...especially yours!  Thanks so much for reaching out and touching base!  You are just awesome!

I haven't been learning much new, but I am making sure that I get on the kit and do some regular practices...no matter how short.  I just don't want to go backwards during this hectic time.

Keep up all the good work, my friend.  Your playing is sounding amazing!

      Talk to you soon,

      Kevin

Hey Kevin, so glad you’re doing ok. I completely understand and can very much relate to how work can take over your life and derail everything else. We’re here for you.

Thanks for checking in @Julia !  It means so much to have such wonderful friends that I’ve gotten to share this journey with!
Take care and talk to you guys soon….I hope. Lol

  4. I tend to believe that as with sports gear, those details that are the difference between the winners and the rest at competition level, not only do not make me any better, but I don't even notice any difference 🤘😅 Saved a lot of money over the years on gear designed for top competition levels, that I would use recreationally. Except if it is pretty and I want it, I need it, I must have it 🤣
  5. Nice and creative idea. I switched to maple maybe a year ago and I'm sticking to it.
  6. I was practicing one handed 16th notes adding beats and came up with this one that I liked. Sounded good at 60bpm

  7. Moved this content to the Micro Goals thread as it seems that I cant link directly to one of these status posts and that'll make it harder to find them later.

  8. Killing time in between dives in the Red Sea and hopefully rusting less. Sending greetings to all the community.

  9. I did not look for it, but ended having VF hickory 5a that I bought to use on the pad, other 5a that came with the e-kit that I thought to be maple but seems even lighter and softer now that, after the tips of those wore out, I bought VF 7a and 5a maple pairs to test both sizes. I got the maple 5as first and they immediately felt better on the kit that the originals. The weight felt weird at first and I thought it had a bad effect on my technique exercises, but soon got used to it. I was convinced to use hickory on the pad and maple on the kit. Then the 7as arrived... and I hated them from the very first moment. I felt like I was back on my early days, when the sticks bounced around on their own will. But otherwise they were thin and light and felt good in my hands, so I decided that they were just showing me I had a weakness and resolved to work on it. I alternated the 5as and 7as on the kit and still use them randomly, to not get too used to any of them, but I know now that the 7as are what my hands like most. I also grab the hickory 5as for pad work and have a pair of 5aa in the kitchen to play with VF nylon tips on the counter while I'm cooking. This happened without any intention, but now I have the idea that this changing sticks frequently is good to develop my hands, and I feel like it is being so, but... is this a mistake?
  10. I guess that depends on your specific High Hat's and module's capabilities. This is where the high-end stuff is significantly different. On a firts search, and though it may vary for an Alesis kit: https://rolandcorp.com.au/blog/typical-drum-playing-techniques-v-drums I have a low end ekit but with a stand high hat with two parts, and though i can't compare with an acoustic I can do most of what my beginner level allows, just with a bit difficulties around half-open high hat, that may be due to my own limitations. Just having a regular stand and pedal will make a real difference in terms of how you practice, and that was one of the things I based my buying decission. About sounds, what I hear from high end kits does not feel like there are significant shortcomings.
  11. Been working a long time on Moeller and Doubles, but I put special focus on them for the last two months. I've noticed a substantial improvement since I started working on them for longer times at slower tempos.

I've also been doing Stick Control exercises over that time, starting from just 60bpm and adding 1bpm per day and they have taught me how to work properly on the other exercises. I mean forgetting about adding speed and just do the exercise trying to mute the click ,and with just control and consistency as goals. They also have improved my left hand control a lot.

    Here are the results.

    Double 90bpm:

    Interlacing Moeller:

    Stick Control 105bpm:

  12. Come on Jason! You are so far ahead of me that you look like a tiny figure over the horizon 😄 In fact you have shifted my drumming goals from playing along music I like, to playing music with people I like 🙂 See ya!
  13. Slow is solid, solid will become fast. So they say, not that i know (yet) 😄
  14. Good decission! may I suggest some stick control exercises? They worked miracles for me.
  15. Just started working on "Crazy". I first learned the snare/bass pattern (L1) and was pretty easy and groovy. The snare-bass-silence-bass-snare is also there in a two bar groove I learned for a song, so it was pretty strightforward to get it going. But I acknowledge from that experience, that it is at first a bit tricky both the silence and the simetry. For no particular reason my next move after playing with and without the click, was using 16th notes on the high hat. I thought it could sound nice, but I only half succeeded with coordinating it. But even my flawed results sounded promising. I'm already thinking if some of the basic fills would fit in somehow. I'll have to give them a try 🙂
  16. First, the concept is great, you really have put on our shoes to make them more useful. With all the tools you provide it's just a matter of us putting in the practice time. I just can't think now on how to improve them; maybe I will have some ideas once I start working on them, but for now , they look perfect. I also quite like the songs selection, that's an additional bonus as I guess I'll go through them many times. And the sound is so good and the production so clear that it's easier to focus on the musical keys than in the mainstream music. Finally, the gooves and fills are both new and challenging, giving me that exciting thrill of new goals to conquer, event for Level 1 🙂 So thanks so much, and congratulations for the great work.
  17. Great! just in time for my lesson review 👍
