Great stuff. Especially for us “mature” drummers who lived through the disco era.

What is that high hat set up? Looks interesting and sounds great.

    Thanks

    John

  2. Phil Antkowicz says:

Good video. You don’t have the groove it won’t happen.

  3. Michelle says:

Thanks for the grooves Stephen! Brings back a lot of memories.

  4. Denise says:

Thank you Stephen, my favourite lesson! For me groove and feel is the most important aspect of my drumming. If I don’t feel it how can I expect the rest of the band and listeners to? These grooves are fun and irresistable!

  5. Dylan says:

Disco is often dismissed as a useless fad. But it’s classic now. Those beats with the flaring hi hats are my Achilles heel. It messes with my head. Just need more practice I suppose. Great lesson

  6. Jim Tobias says:

Awesome lesson Stephen! Couldn’t agree more on the “feel” of these grooves and beats. Takes me back to the 70’s to KC and the sunshine band and Donna Summer. Thank you for your dedication and excellent teaching! You Rock!

  7. Wow, this is a good lesson. Now that I listened to this lesson I realized I had played some of this groove lately without even knowing they were Disco grooves. The sad part is I grew up in the 70’s listening to this style and did not recognize them.

Simple grooves are always discounted. Thanks again Steve.

Since you are demonstrating hand to hand on the hats, the sheet music denotes otherwise (ie., right hand only), so for clarity, may want to remove the hats on 2 and 4.

Hey Ron…Yikes! You caught a mistake! Lol, you are correct. That is a mistake in the notation.

I went ahead and fired those responsible.

Also, I’m now looking for a job, so if you know of any openings…

Steve, 16″EFX on top and 14″ or 15″ on the bottom?

    • Stephen says:

16″ K light top hat on bottom. And just FYI for the future, my cymbal setup for each video is in the video description on YouTube.
