Stephen replied to the topic hybrid kit? in the forum Gear Talk 1 year, 9 months ago
Hey Mike…yea, as Joshua said, it’s very common to combine them these days. Some people run an ekit with real cymbals…some with real cymbals and a snare, etc. Just depends on your setup and your needs. The great thing about drums is there’s no “wrong”. If it works for your situation, do it. Zildjian also makes the Gen 16 cymbals for e kits that…[Read more]

Stephen replied to the topic No Motivation: How can I pick myself back up? in the forum Introduce Yourself 1 year, 10 months ago
Sounds like you are completely normal ;^)
Seriously…this is a regular cycle that happens with me. And instead of looking at the situation that you feel triggered this…the jams you couldn’t come up with parts to…as a negative thing (i.e. I’m no good, I should be able to do this, etc. and so forth), look at them as a positive. That experience…[Read more]

Leslie! So glad to have you in the DBD family!
I was in NC late last year giving a clinic. We shot over to Folley Field Beach in SC for a few days of RnR with the fam. Beautiful states.
If I can do anything to help, you just let me know!

I love it Lori! You would actually be surprised at how many of the members are in your same age demographic. So you’re definitely in good company!
I love that you have the goal of playing on your worship team. There is nothing better for your development than playing regularly with other musicians. I think it would be a great idea to set a goal…[Read more]

Stephen replied to the topic Moeller Question in the forum DBD Member Lesson Discussion 1 year, 10 months ago
You got it down brotha. Now it’s a matter of interlacing the two hands to make a single stroke roll using the Moeller. But you have it down cold in that video.

Love it Justin! Killing that track man.
We’re actually planning on making some collaboration features similar to this one in the new forum area (coming in a couple of weeks). It will enable the community to make collaborative songs, etc. like this one.

Stephen replied to the topic Following the system in the forum DBD Member Lesson Discussion 1 year, 10 months ago
Don’t feel that way at all. The resources are there for you, whether you use one, none, or all of them. The thing I do encourage everyone to do is keep a practice journal. Once you go through the DBD system, you begin to find what works for you specifically. And that’s the goal. The fact that you have an organized practice time, have set up a…[Read more]

Stephen replied to the topic CYMBALS in the forum Gear Talk 1 year, 11 months ago
Hey Candice…question for you…from my viewpoint, it looks like your left foot is at a slant? Sometimes this happens because we’re not paying attention. Sometimes it’s because it’s more comfortable. Sometimes it’s because we’re facing the hihat a little more when we sit. Sometimes turning that a bit straighter will allow you to shift it an inch…[Read more]

Stephen replied to the topic Moeller Question in the forum DBD Member Lesson Discussion 1 year, 11 months ago
As much as possible. But you are obviously opening up the hand to allow for rebound. So there will be some give there. The important thing is to stay focused on that idea of cradling the stick…not choking it. I’m not as concerned with the other unless it becomes an obvious hindrance. We just want to keep the pinky from sticking way out. We’re…[Read more]

Stephen replied to the topic Hand Technique in the forum DBD Member Lesson Discussion 1 year, 11 months ago
Hey Lucas,
Great question. Like Marcus said, Moeller is dependent on the free stroke. So I wouldn’t jump the gun on that. The thing you need to remewmber with all of these techniques is that they’re just different tools…not all of them are ideal in all situations (like you were saying). Now…what you can do…work on the free stroke and then…[Read more]
