  • Hey Gudjon.  Welcome.  Be sure to check out the Warrior Way.  Lots of great tips on how to structure your practice time to get the most out of it.  If the drums are driving your wife crazy, take a look at the Aquarian Superpads and the Zildjian L80 cymbals.  The price you pay for them is well worth having a peaceful marriage as far as the drum…[Read more]

  • Hey Don!  Welcome.  Looks like  you have a really nice practice space there.  Nice kit too.  We are glad to have you as part of the shed.  You are going to love learning here.  Let us know how we can help along the way.

Hey Joeri.  Welcome to the shed.  Here is what I know about being a dad and a drummer…if you don’t have an understanding with your family about the importance of drumming in  your life it is going to be a really frustrating ride.   My kids are 12 and 16 now.  I remember with they were 2 and 6 and thinking, wow, as soon as they get a year or tw…[Read more]

  • Matthew, the good news is that if you are feeling the way you are….you are on the right path. Check this out.  There are a few different levels we progress through as players.  First is the unconscious incompetent level  (we suck and we have no clue that we suck).  That’s okay.  That is when we first get that kit and are just happy to bang arou…[Read more]

Hey John.  Welcome.  As a beginner, I can’t recommend the Warrior Way enough.  Be sure to check that out.  It will start you off on the right path for sure.  Have you picked up a kit yet?

  • What’s up Gary?  Glad to have you here.  There are many of us “older” players in here with a very similar story.  This is a great place to learn.  We are here to help.  Hit us up!

Anthony, Welcome!!!!  We are stoked to have you in the Shed.  Tell us a little about you.  How long have you been playing?  What kind of music are you in to?  What are you hoping to gain from being a part of the shed?

Gary, Welcome to the Shed. You came to the right place.  Sounds like you have some solid long term goals.  This is such a great place to learn…and I can say since you are interested in teaching, it is a great place to learn to teach.  Stephen is hands down the best drum teacher I have experienced.  I have taken lessons from some really great peo…[Read more]

  • Ryan,  Glad to have you here brother.  Focus and knowing what/how to practice is a big deal for all of us.  I totally recommend doing the ADD worksheet to figure out where to start and then pick your lesson tracks from there…or just jump into the Warrior Way and get started down the beginner path.  Even as someone who has played for years, the…[Read more]

Sort of….The CL series was made off-shore to GMS specs by a small family run business and with hardware provided by GMS.  GMS no longer offer this line.  I think they wanted to offer something other than their Grand Master series to expand their customer base a bit, but it never really took off for them.  Anyway, the CL series came in some pr…[Read more]

  • When working slower tempos, try using a metronome set to a subdivision like 16th notes.  It makes those spaces so much easier to feel.  So if your tempo is 1/4 note = 60, set the metronome to play 1/8  notes or 1/16 notes.  Once those spaces between the clicks get shorter, it is so much easier to stay in time.

2009 GMS CL Series – Maple 10″, 12″, 14″, 16″, 22″ and 14″X 5.5″ matching snare.  This is a photo the folks at GMS took of the kit before they shipped it to me.  I have replaced all the triple flanged hoops with die cast to focus the sound of the drums a bit.  I still have the 10″ tom, but don’t use it much.  I have moved the 12″ to where the 10″…[Read more]

  • Harry!  Welcome.  I love the piano so much. I am always amazed by people who can play keys.  Maybe I will take up that challenge in the future.  Anyway, you are in a good spot here.  The Shed is a great place to pick up some of those tools you might have missed out on early on in your playing and definitely the place to be to reach your next leve…[Read more]

  • Welcome to the Shed!  You picked a great place to learn.  In fact the best place to learn as far as I am concerned.  Make sure to work through the Warrior Way.  It will get you on the right path.  Let us know if you need any help along the way.

  • You are most welcome.  Supporting and helping each other is what we are all about.  We are here if you need us!

  • Sure.  You just need to allocate the time in your day however that works for you.  Sounds to me like you could come home, grab a power nap, eat some dinner and maybe start your practice session at 7.  Motivation challenges are often associated with focus issues.  I find it hard to get motivated if I have to figure out what I am going to pra…[Read more]
