I have to agree with Paul. I would say the hats and ride are the best part of that line of cymbals. The crashes can sound a bit too metallic for my taste.

  • Hello Diana!

Welcome to the shed my friend!! We are so happy to have you with us! What a wonderful way to get into the drums. It sounds like you already have a sense of rhythm and experience with percussion already as well. I think you will absolutely love it here, and be able to get going quickly with the experience you have already!

    If you…[Read more]

  • Hey again Ryan!

I’ll get Stephen involved in this. I know he has some great insight on stick control / how to take care of your hands.

  • Hey Ryan!!

What is up my friend, welcome to the shed! What a great way to get started on the drums. That’s definitely the first time I’ve heard of someone getting started like that! Very cool.

I think you are definitely going to love Stephen’s teaching. He’s great at taking large / difficult ideas, and making them understandable for his…[Read more]

Great point! The Zildjian Gen 16 are AMAZING. Here’s a link to them demonstrated! CLICK HERE

The only thing to note about utilizing the Gen 16’s or even the Zildjian L80’s, is there will be a difference in volume when you’re practicing. Electronic drum kit cymbals tend to sound like you are hitting a practice pad, where as the Gen 16’s sound like…[Read more]

    Hey Mike!

Great to hear your thoughts and great questions. These are not “noob” questions, these are super valid and are going to help you be a better drummer once you have some answers.

What you have heard is correct, electronic drums feel quite different from acoustic drums. However that’s not necessarily a bad thing, they are just very…[Read more]

  • Hey again Jon!

When it comes to improve lessons, there’s nothing completely dedicated to that topic at the moment, but that’s a great idea. I will pass that on to Stephen and see if we can make that happen!

If you go through the Samba lessons track, there is some coverage on improvising as you go through the lessons, but you will have to start…[Read more]

    What is up Shaun!!

Welcome to the shed my friend, we’re so happy to have you with us. I can definitely relate to the struggle of searching Youtube for drum lessons. There’s just so many options and so much noise on the internet, it can be very difficult to have a plan in place that works.

I think you made a great choice in joining the DBD…[Read more]

  • Jon this is awesome!!! It’s so great to see student’s make such huge leaps in their playing like this. When you treat the drums like a task or chore, it’s easy for it to become boring. But it sounds like you found that spark to reignite the love for drums that got you started. That’s so exciting to hear man! Also, I really like the way you are…[Read more]

  • What is up Jeff?!

Welcome to the shed my friend, we’re so happy to have you with us! It’s great to hear that you already have musical experience, I feel like that’s always very helpful. I always wished I had learned how to play piano or guitar along with the drums to give myself a better understanding for the band. That will add a very cool…[Read more]

What is up David! Welcome to the shed!

Those are some great and useful goals to set for yourself. I wish I could play guitar along with the drums, I’ve always seen guys who play multiple instruments as being very in tune with music. The more you can relate to other people in the band, the more empathetic and helpful you can be in the song. Very…[Read more]

  • Hey Walt! Great question. First off, congrats on playing with the group. That’s such an exciting part of playing the drums is going from the practice room, to playing with other people, very cool.

Soloing is just like learning grooves, time and feel. It just takes practice. I would imagine (at least for myself) to jump into a solo at that fast of…[Read more]

Hey Scott!! Welcome to the shed my friend! We are so happy to have you. First off, what a cool experience. I wish I could remember the first time I sat down at a drum kit and thought “Alright, I’m doing this”. Very cool.
